Each alumnus of the Aceh Oil Institute (AOI) has their own unique success story, and the journey of Teuku Muhammad Haikal, a graduate from the 2022 class, serves as an inspiring example in the oil and gas industry. His career path was not easy; however, the challenges he faced only strengthened his character and determination. Today, Haikal is forging a remarkable career at BP LNG Tangguh, one of the leading oil and gas companies, thanks to an unexpected opportunity.
An Unexpected Moment
Haikal’s success story began in a city in Aceh, where he was working as a surveyor. During a brief moment when he stepped out to grab lunch, he spotted a senior management vehicle from AOI parked nearby. Without hesitation, he took the initiative to say hello. The meeting started off somewhat awkwardly as the senior management member did not recognize him. However, with a polite demeanor and confidence, Haikal introduced himself and explained what he was doing. The moment the senior heard the name AOI, his expression changed from confusion to friendliness—opening a door to a valuable opportunity.
A Challenging Opportunity
In that brief conversation, the senior management member asked, “Haikal, would you be interested in working in the oil and gas industry outside of Aceh?” Without a moment’s hesitation, Haikal replied, “Absolutely, sir!” When the question followed, “What if it’s in Papua?” his heart raced with excitement upon hearing the name BP LNG Tangguh, a symbol of the dream he longed to fulfill. This moment was not merely an encounter; it was a bridge connecting aspiration with reality.
Support That Strengthens
After submitting his resume, Haikal received valuable guidance from the senior management, yet his support did not end there. Even though he had not yet received an interview invitation himself, he selflessly took leave from his job to accompany a fellow alumnus who was also interviewing in Jakarta. This noble act exemplifies the strong sense of camaraderie within the AOI alumni community, where individuals uplift one another towards shared success.
Fortune Favors the Bold
At the interview venue, while Haikal was explaining his presence to an unfamiliar face, it was revealed that his resume had been sent to the senior management member. This revelation surprised both of them, and within moments, Haikal was given the chance to participate in the interview—an opportunity he never imagined could come so quickly, all thanks to his willingness to be present in that situation.
Success Achieved
Finally, after two weeks of waiting, joyous news arrived for Haikal. He was declared successful and ready to join BP LNG Tangguh. When he received this wonderful news, he paused to reflect on the journey he had taken. Haikal recognized that all opportunities, encounters, and his path to success were part of a greater plan—a destiny that had already been arranged by a higher power.
